Lastly, if you weren't certain that Dell was going to give the free upgrade, why didn't you just wait that one measly month and get MCE ? I think Dell is still the quality company that you have continually promoted to your friends and family in the past Perhaps you should take a class on risk management I'll second that.

I bought a with media center Oct. I was going to buy the HP media center and decided last minute to get the dell instead due to their reputation for good service. Well I made a huge mistake.

Dell is shipping my exact system with Media center explain to me why it can't be upgraded. Somebody better do something or I will never purchase another dell product in my life and I can tell you many people feel exactly like me. What recourse do we have?? Microsoft help!!!

Not all of us are tuned in techies. If I knew media center was coming out in one month I would have waited. According to microsoft you could only purchase this upgrade thru dell, I didn't realize there is another option. How come Dell of microsoft dosen't tell you this???? When you spend that kind of money you expect a level of service. I got even this weekend when a friend was about to buy a laptop from Dell. I stopped him from purchasing from Dell. I used to refer a lot of people to Dell but until I get my upgrade I'm going to cost them lots in lost revenues JVeloza2 2 Bronze.

When i go to my computer and right click it and go to properties it says "microsft windows xp media center edition version service pack 2. A couple of last tricks up my sleeve. The other is a complete non-destructive reinstall of the system files. Fred Langa makes this tutorial, he used to work for MS and now helps others to get around its foibles.

If you hit a snag following the directions, if a page is not there as described in the tutorial, it may not work for MCE. What ever you do, do not choose the first repair option the one Langa tells you to skip it will erase all your data and you might as well have done a clean install.

Appzalien , Feb 29, Its possible that your cd2 is either corrupt or missing files from the getgo, therefore your problems. It doesn't happen often but bad disks do get into the market. When I get a file not found or in your case disk2 wrong disk I usually hit the retry button over and over and sometimes that gets it going. I suspect that you will end up having to replace the version with though. I doubt you will get much help from Microsoft. If you have a legitimate copy of MCE and it entitles you to updates to , why not download a iso and use your key to register it.

I doubt MS would send you a new disk but there are options on the internet to get one on your own. If your key is good for it should be good for as well. Its sort of like having XP pro and slipstreaming it with SP2 and all the critical updates, Its no longer the original disk but its your serial that registers it.

Perhaps if it does, your version has to have the rollup installed before it can be updated to , and those are your missing files. Appzalien , Mar 4, You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account?
